Azimut360 / The Gambia / 2019
Project Manager

Azimut360, the Medical Research Council (MRC) and the M’Bolo Association (The Gambia), carried out the installation of a 501.33 kWp grid-tied solar system in The Gambia entirely installed by women. My role was to design, procure, coordiante construction, training and commissioning of the biggest installation in The Gambia so far.

This initiative has resulted in a 27% reduction of MRC’s expenditure on electricity (about 160,000 US$ per year).  The PV system was entirely installed by a crew of 38 women from Fandema’s Renewable Energy Installation team, which is a central part of the Mbolo Association Educational project. I coordinated the technical and theoretical aspects of the training on solar installations and worked with them on the installation of the plant.

Know-how transfer to the women only Fandema’s Solar Energy Installation team was one of the main goals of the project. The expected result of the participation in the training activities was that the participants could design and install future solar systems on their own, hence replicating and upscaling the existing systems and creating employment opportunities for women.
